BERYL BALLHORN
BERYL ( GILCHRIST) BALLHORN was born i n Wetaskiwin, A l b e r t a,
daughter of Dolly and Roy G i l c h r i s t . She received her schooling
i n Wetaskiwin and Edmonton, graduating as a teacher i n 1941.
She taught i n the Wetaskiwin area and i n 1944 married Gordon
B a l l h o r n . They have 5 c h i l d r e n , Barbara, Richard, B i l l , Neal
and Robert.
Beryl joined the Angus Ridge Women's I n s t i t u t e i n 1944 and
served i n a l l the branch o f f i c e s . She was Constituency Convener
i n D i s t r i c t 3 for four years, D i s t r i c t 3 D i r e c t o r for three
years, then P r o v i n c i a l 2nd and 1st V i c e - P r e s i d e n t and P r o v i n c i al
President of the A l b e r t a Women's I n s t i t u t e s.
She was nominated by the A. W. I, and served four years on the
M i n i s t e r ' s Advisory Committee for Student A f f a i r s . She worked
p r o v i n c i a l l y on the A l b e r t a Federation of Home & School
A s s o c i a t i o n for many years and r e c e i v e d a L i f e Membership i n
1976.
