The others have a l l gone on to f u r t h e r t r a i n i n g . One son i s a
surveyor, and the other manages a g r a i n elevator. Five daughters
are teachers, one i s ' a nurse, one i s a Lab. Technician, and one
i s completing a course as X- hay Technician. Ail the c h i l d r e n are
married except the youngest daughter. There are t h i r t y grandc
h i l d r e n.
Mr* and lira* Thielen continued to l i v e on t h e i r farm u n t i l the
Spring of 1966, when they purchased a home i n M i l k B i v s r , where
they are now r e s i d i n g , while continuing to farm.
Mrs. Thielen i s a Charter member of the Eew Layton Women's
I n s t i t u t e , which was organized i n August, 1915. She acted as
Branch Secretary u n t i l she l e f t to attend Calgary normal School.
A f t e r her marriage, she joined the Wide- Awake Women's I n s t i t u te
i n the Spring of 1923, and was a member t i l l 1929, when i l l health
forced her to resign.
Mrs. Thielen became a Charter member of the Writing- on- Stone
Women's I n s t i t u t e , when i t was formed i n 1950. In t h i s Branch
she served as Chairman of C i t i z e n s h i p , h e a l t h and xiome . uiconomios,
and S o c i a l Services. She served as Treasurer for a term, and was
Constituency Chairman f o r Health and Home Economics f o r two years,
as w e l l as helping with the A* W* I* Girls' Club.
In June 1966, the members of the w'riting- On- Stone ^ omen's
I n s t i t u t e honored Mrs. Thielen with a L i f e Membership i n the
A l b e r t a Women's I n s t i t u t e . Mrs. Tnielen expressed ner gratitude
saying that she w i l l wear her P i n with p r i d e , i n being even a
small part, i n t h i s Great Organization.
