LIFE MEMBERS of the ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTES FOREWORD This project provides a collection of the biographical sketches of those who have been the recipients of a Life Membership i n the Alberta Women's Institutes. L i f e Memberships were f i r s t bestowed i n our organization i n May 1951. No attempt was made to compile a record of the honored members u n t i l October 1955 when Mrs. T. H. Howes, Provincial President, directed Mrs. W. R. Ford to undertake the task. The work was begun immediately with the objective of obtaining l i f e stories and photographs of a l l L i f e Members. In t h i s we have not been entirely successful as a number of records have not been submitted i n s u f f i c i e n t length to permit entry. The design for the cover and the leather tooling i s the work of Mrs. Myron Verburg of Sunshine W. I., Coutts. The editing and typing has been done by Mrs. Ford, except for the years 1959 - I96I when, due to the pressure of the Provi n c i a l President's duties, she delegated the e d i t o r i a l duties to Mrs. E. C. Hutchinson of Warner Women's Institute... To write of those who have labored long and well for HOME and COUNTRY has been a rewarding experience. The Editor, V i r g i n i a Ford
