A few years l a t e r Kaye s t a r t e d a combined P s y c h i a t r i c and Registered
Nurses four year program a t S e l k i r k , Manitoba. This was i n t e r r -
upted, however when Kaye came home on holidays and f e l l i n love with
a farm boy, Joe Rowbottom. They married and r a i s e d a family o f four
children: Tom, Richard, Hester and Mary- Jo. Kaye and Joe are proud
grandparents of nine grandchildren.
Kaye was introduced to Women's I n s t i t u t e i n 1948 when she joined
the " Pope Lease W. I." She held o f f i c e at l o c a l l e v e l and served terms
as Constituency Convener, D i s t r i c t 5 D i r e c t o r , 1st Vice- President and
was elected A. W. I. President f o r a term o f three years ( I98I - 1984).
Other organizations Kaye i s involved i n i n c l u d e : Canadian Cancer
Society, Agaware- the A g r i c u l t u r e Awareness I n s t i t u t e , Outdoors Un-l
i t t e r e d , Alberta Safety Program and the Hesketh- Pope Lease Community
A s s o c i a t i o n . She has been a Junior Sunday School Superintendent f or
over twenty years i n the Elm P e n t e c o s t a l Tabernacle. Her love for God
and people have strengthened her l i f e . Kaye says that the years spent
i n working f o r others and e s p e c i a l l y the A l b e r t a Women's I n s t i t u te
has g r e a t l y enriched her l i f e and even overshadows her hobbies o f
c o l l e c t i n g mugs and good books. The " Mary Stewart C o l l e c t " has a place
very close to her heart and i s a goal set to be achieved.
At the conclusion o f the 1984 A. W. I. Convention Council presented
Kaye with a " L i f e Membership" i n the A l b e r t a Women's I n s t i t u t e i n
r e c o g n i t i o n o f her many years of dedicated service f o r " Home and
Country".
