MRS. JACK GILBERTSON
Evangeline Reynolds was Lorn i n Trenton, E i c t o n County,
Nova S c o t i a , where she r e c e i v e d her education. She came West
w i t h her parents and brothers i n 1907 and s e t t l e d i n the Sugar
Bowl d i s t r i c t , south of what i s now the town of Hughenden. She
taught the f i r s t school i n t h a t d i s t r i c t and there met John Edward
G i l h e r t s o n , a veteran of the ^ oer War, whom she married
January 26, 1910.
Mr. and Mrs. G i l h e r t s o n made t h e i r home on Jack's Boer
War s c r i p i n the a d j o i n i n g d i s t r i c t of Landscape. They ranched
and farmed and. r a i s e d a f a m i l y o f nine hoys and three g i r l s , i n c
l u d i n g two s e t s of twin hoys. They were wonderful neighbors,
always ready t o l e n d a h e l p i n g hand t o s e t t l e r s . Their door was
ever open t o f r i e n d and s t r a n g e r a l i k e . Anniversaries and showers
f o r young and o l d were celebrated i n t h e i r home. Their own Golden
