MRS. HUGHENA ELLIS
Mrs. Hughena E l l i s was " born
A p r i l 29, 1891, at Red J a c k e t , Saskatchewan,
the daughter o f A r c h i b a ld
and Cathiren Macdonald of Highland
stock, and attended school there.
She worked i n a s t o r e u n t il
her marriage t o James E l l i s at E e r n i e,
B r i t i s h Columbia on January 27, 1910.
Her parents, brother and s i s t e r had
s e t t l e d at what i s now Condor i n 1910
so they moved t o the same d i s t r i c t.
Mr. E l l i s f i l e d on a homestead and
while he was Overseas i n World War I
Mrs. E l l i s proved up on i t . He came
hack disabled, and passed away i n June 1924, l e a v i n g Mrs. E l l is
with a young f a m i l y of s i x t o r a i s e . Eour are s t i l l l i v i n g and
there are t h r e e grandchildren. Four sons were i n the Second War.
Mrs. E l l i s did p r a c t i c a l nursing f o r many years when no
h o s p i t a l s were a v a i l a b l e i n o u t l y i n g d i s t r i c t s . Her hobbies
i n c l u d e : s h e l l work, wax work, q u i l t s , cushions, aprons and, the
l a t e s t , l i q u i d embroidery, besides t a t t i n g and embroidery.
She belonged t o the Barents and Teachers' A s s o c i a t i o n,
now known as Home and School, and t o the Canadian Legion Branch
w 62 i n Salmon Arm, B. C.
She was l i v i n g i n Calgary when she f i r s t joined an I n s t i t u te
i n 1922. She belonged t o B l a c k f a l d s W. I. while l i v i n g there. She
has been a f a i t h f u l member of Condor W. I. and the members honored
her with a. L i f e Membership at the Red Deer West Constituency Conference
i n June 1964.
For several years Mrs. E l l i s has been t a k i n g care of her
Mother who was 99 on January 12, 1965.
