MRS. H. J . MONTGOMERY
One of the f i r s t two L i f e Memberships of the Alberta
Women's I n s t i t u t e s was that granted to Mrs. Hugh John Montgomery
i n May 1951.
Mary Adelaide Vaughn, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
C l i f f o r d E. Vaugh, was born i n the v i l l a g e of Roseoe, I l l i n o is
on August 8th, 1885. She was of English and Welsh descent. Due
to the i l l health of the father, the family moved to new surroundings
i n 1894 and came to the Canadian Northwest where they found
a homestead at Todds' Crossing on the Battle River about f i f t e en
miles southwest of Wetaskiwin. To the l o g Alberta home, Mrs. Vau-ghan,
who was a talented musician, brought her piano. She gave
