She had promised her parents that she would r e t u r n t o
Scotland i n f i v e years f o r a v i s i t , hut romance entered her
l i f e at a Red Cross dance when she met her husband- to- be who
was i n Brandon on business. E l i z a b e t h McGaig and Ray Grant
were married August 3, 1916 and t r a v e l l e d t o Walsh, A l b e r t a,
where they took up residence at the S a r n i a Ranch. Here they
remained u n t i l t h e i r f a m i l y was ready t o attend school when
they took up residence i n the hamlet of Walsh. The three
c h i l d r e n are now grown and married and the Grants have three
grandchildren to b r i g h t e n t h e i r sunset years.
Mrs. Grant joined the Walsh Women's I n s t i t u t e i n 1919
and has been a f a i t h f u l member and co- operative worker always.
During the f o r t y years since j o i n i n g she has h e l d a l l branch
o f f i c e s and has shared the good times and the hard times i n
t h i s t i n y branch that i s one of the o l d e s t i n the province.
Mrs. Grant took an a c t i v e part I n Red Cross work during
the war years and s t i l l convenes . the y e a r l y canvass f o r that
body which i s a V/ omen's I n s t i t u t e p r o j e c t i n Walsh,. Mrs.' Grant
i s blessed with good h e a l t h and plans t o r e t u r n t o Bonnie Scotland
i n J u l y 1959 f o r a combined v i s i t with f a m i l y and f r i e n d s
and w i l l also attend the T r i e n n i a l Conference o f the A s s o c i a t ed
Country Women of the World as p a r t of her good work f o r A. V. I.
Walsh Women's I n s t i t u t e bestowed a L i f e Membership i n
the A l b e r t a V/ omen's I n s t i t u t e s on Mrs. R. S. Grant i n May 1957.
