MRS. THOMAS TAYLOR
Mrs. Thomas Taylor ( Alice Taylor) was the s i x t h recipient
of a L i f e Membership i n the Alberta Women's I n s t i t u t e s.
It was given her by Edmonton Women's Institute for her long
years of service. She was a Charter Member of the branch, having
joined i n 1919. She has f i l l e d a l l the offices i n the Edmonton
branch and i n her seventy- nineth year she convened the
Women's I n s t i t u t e Tearoom.
Mrs. Taylor was born i n Melbourne, Quebec on the 28th
day of February 1873. She was married on the 30th day of August
1893 and came west s i x years l a t e r , l i v i n g at Cranbrook,
B r i t i s h Columbia and Winnipeg, Manitoba, before coming to Edmonton
i n 1905.
She has taken a very prominent part i n a number of
organizations during her stay of f i f t y years and more i n the
City of Edmonton; fourteen i n a l l and on the executive of most
of them at one time. She was President of the Local Council of
Women f o r four years and holds a L i f e Membership i n that body
as well as a L i f e Membership i n the National Council of Women.
She attended no less than nine National Council meetings. She
received a l e t t e r of appreciation from the City of Edmonton f or
services rendered during the influenza epidemic of 1918 f o r nursing
and making huge amounts of soup.
Mr. Taylor was an engineer on the C. N. R. u n t i l his retirement.
The Taylors celebrated their Golden Wedding and
Diamond Wedding Anniversaries. On the l a s t occasion they received
congratulations from Her Majesty, the Queen, and also
from Premier Manning of Alberta.
