of the W. I. that he was considered a member t o o ) . Mr. and Mrs. Alexander
have a f a m i l y of three g i r l s and one boy a l l born on the farm.
The g i r l s , Yvonne, Jean and Myra, are married and there are f i v e grandc
h i l d r e n . Douglas i s s t i l l s i n g l e . In 1944 they sold t h e i r farm i n
the i r r i g a t e d area and moved to a farm at Penhold where they remained
only one year before moving to Cayley which has been t h e i r home since.
Mrs. R.. G. McKeage organized the Cayley V. I. i n June 1945 and
Mrs. Alexander became the f i r s t president. During the years she has
held most of the branch o f f i c e s . She became Constituency Convener of
Calgary- Okotoks Constituency i n 1954 and only served one year as she
was elected D i r e c t o r of D i s t r i c t 4 and served 1955 to 1959. At the
1959 P r o v i n c i a l Convention she was elected Junior Representative of
the Federated Vomen's I n s t i t u t e of Canada and served two years. She
attended the P i r s t n a t i o n a l Convention held i n Ottawa as D i r e c t o r of
D i s t r i c t 4 and the Second N a t i o n a l Convention i n Vancouver i n 1961 as
the J u n i o r Representative when she was elected Member- at- Large f o r the
F. V. I. C. She also attended the Third N a t i o n a l Convention i n V o l f v i l l e ,
Nova S c o t i a , i n 1964- She was elected D i r e c t o r of D i s t r i c t 4 again i n
1961 and served u n t i l 1963. Her pleasant p e r s o n a l i t y and f i n e I n s t i t u te
record were c o n t r i b u t i n g f a c t o r s i n her being chosen to represent the
F. "- I. e. at the ' Real V o r l d of Vomen Conference' sponsored by C. B. C. at
the U n i v e r s i t y of Toronto, September 1962.
Mrs. Alexander was presented w i t h a L i f e Membership by the branche
i n D i s t r i c t 4 at the D i s t r i c t Conference i n January 1964, with the presen
t a t i o n being made by her mother, Mrs. R. E. Reynolds.
Mr. Alexander passed away January 1964 and i n June 1964 Mrs. Alexander's
parents, Mr.' and Mrs. R. E. Reynolds, were k i l l e d i n a car a c c i dent.
Mrs. Alexander continuesto make her home on the farm at Cayley and
plans to attend the Associated Country Vomen o f the V o r l d Conference i n
Dublin i n 1965 and continue i n the work o f the I n s t i t u t e.
