Their f i r s t home was on a farm near James River Bridge. north of Sundre,
A l b e r t a . While there she joined the D. E. L. Women's I n s t i t u t e . a n d took
an active part i n the a c t i v i t i e s of the community.
Their f i r s t son was born at the Olds H o s p i t a l i n May, 1944. In
1945 the Pimms moved to Westward Ho D i s t r i c t where she joined the
l o c a l branch. While r e s i d i n g there Z e l l a was kept busy being a farmer's
wife and r a i s i n g her f i v e sons: A l b e r t , Edward, George, Norman
and Walter.
In 1954 the Pimm family ventured to northern A l b e r t a to a farm i n
the Grimshaw Berwyn area o f the Peace River block. Z e l l a joined the
Berwyn I n s t i t u t e and through the years has held most offices. Her
community a c t i v i t i e s included 4H and other school a c t i v i t i e s i n which
the c h i l d r e n were involved. Z e l l a was Secretary for the North Peace
Rodeo Association.
She served two terms as Constituency Convenor o f the Peace River
Constituency. Z e l l a was appointed P r o v i n c i a l A g r i c u l t u r e Convenor and
during that time she voiced her concern that we were l o s i n g a great
deal of the h i s t o r y o f " A g r i c u l t u r e i n Action" through the years. She
requested I n s t i t u t e members to c o l l e c t p i c t u r e s of a l l farming a c t i v i
t i e s from pioneer days to the present. The response was overwhelming
— a number o f good p i c t u r e s were a v a i l a b l e . Soon the the compiling
and production of the P i c t o r i a l A g r i c u l t u r e History was completed. lt
was s u i t a b l y t i t l e d " Yesterday." It has been a pleasure to many who had
concern f o r a l o s t heritage to know that some record has been made o f
farming i n the past.
In I982 A. W. I, honored Z e l l a with a L i f e Membership f o r her e f f o r t s
to get t h i s worthy project started i n the name o f the A l b e r t a Women's
I n s t i t u t e s.
