In 1925 the Campbells moved to M i l k River where Mr.
Campbell was a lumber man. Gardening was t h e i r hobby and
t h e i r yard became a show place i n the town.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Campbell were active i n community
work. She i s a Charter Member of I r i s Chapter # 77, O. S. S.
M i l k River and a P a s t Matron of the same. Mrs. Campbell
acted as Superintendent of the United Church Sunday School
f o r a dozen or more years; was active i n the formation of
the Women's Institute Library i n the town and helped to secure
a d i s t r i c t nurse for the community - to mention just a
few of her l o c a l efforts.
Mrs. Campbell has held various o f f i c e s i n the A l berta
Women's Institutes: Constituency Convener, D i s t r i ct
Director, P r o v i n c i a l Secretary f o r four years, P r o v i n c i al
Chairman of Agriculture and Canadian Industries. She commenced
the W. I. Radio program over CJOC at Lethbridge and
CHAT at Medicine Hat and has v/ ritten a weekly column of
Women's I n s t i t u t e news f o r the Lethbridge Herald for the
past six years.
Mrs. Campbell compiled a History of the Milk River
Community which won an Honorable Mention i n the Tweedsmuir
Competition and also has one of her a r t i c l e s included i n the
Alberta Anthology published i n the Jubilee Year of 1955.
She was widowed i n 1951 and she took a book- keeping
position i n a l o c a l store, but under much pressure from the
County Superintendent she returned to her old profession of
teaching i n 1955 and accepted a position i n the Coutts school.
Her hobbies are flowers, reading and enjoying people.
