Mrs. Tester was an a c t i v e member of the L i t t l e Bed
Deer Dorcas Women's I n s t i t u t e while i n the L i t t l e Red Deer
d i s t r i c t , both before when i t was a community o r g a n i z a t i on
and a f t e r i t reorganized as a Women's I n s t i t u t e i n 1946.
She f i r s t became an I n s t i t u t e member when she j o i n e d the
Gordon W. I. i n 1938. Later she helped organize and j o i n ed
the I n n i s f a i l Women's I n s t i t u t e . I t was l a r g e l y due to her
e f f o r t s that the I n n i s f a i l Constituency was formed and she
became the f i r s t Convener i n 1946, s e r v i n g f o u r years. When
the Constituency became too l a r g e i t was d i v i d e d and two
Constituencies were formed and Mrs. T e s t e r continued as Convener
f o r another two years. During those years her home was
a W. I. centre; executive meetings were always h e l d there and
I n s t i t u t e o f f i c e r s were sure of a welcome at any time.
Mrs. Tester's p u b l i c s e r v i c e has not been confined t o
the Women's I n s t i t u t e . She i s a c t i v e i n church, work, having
taught Sunday School f o r many years and she i s a l s o a member
of the U n i t e d Church V/ omen's A u x i l i a r y.
She i s a Past Worthy Matron o f the Eastern Star and
has been Rest Room S e c r e t a r y since i t s i n c e p t i o n as w e l l as
being an a c t i v e helper at the l i b r a r y .
Mrs. Tester was presented with a L i f e Membership i n
May 1959 by the L i t t l e Red Deer Dorcas Women's I n s t i t u t e i n
r e c o g n i t i o n of h e r years of f a i t h f u l and i n s p i r i n g s e r v i c e.
