The idea was received enthusiasti c a l l y and on October 11., 1923 the Red Willow Women's Institute was formed, with Mrs. Sheppard being one of the ten Charter Members enrolled. Since then she has been a continuous member and except f o r the years when her late husband was i l l she has attended most meetings. The branch secretary w r i t e s: " For the past t h i r t y - s i x years our meetings have been strengthened and brightened by her sunny disposition and we had great pleasure i n presenting her with a L i f e Membership i n the Alberta Women's I n s t i t utes. ! T Her L i f e Membership was to have been presented to her at the annual Constituency Conference i n Rio Grande on her seventieth birthday and t h i r y years of continuous membership i n the Red Willow W. I., but due to r a i n and bad roads the plans did not materialize. Due to her age the members f e l t that the p i n should be presented to her at a regular branch meeting. This was done with the presentation being made by Mrs. L. Williams. Mrs. Sheppard remains active i n community work and especially i n the Catholic Women's League.
