MRS. ESLE CARR
Mrs. Carr v/ as born i n Galstone, A y r s h i r e , Scotland March 14,
1898 - maiden name was Barbara Arnott. She was educated i n Scotland
and came t o Canada A p r i l 20, 1912 s a i l i n g on the f i r s t boat
l e a v i n g Glasgow a f t e r the T i t a n i c went down.
She took a business course at the Copeland Business College
i n Calgary and l a t e r held the p o s i t i o n of stenographer and booklceeper
at A l i x Creamery. She was the f i r s t stenographer there and was the
one who drew up the o u t l i n e f o r the formation of the C. A. D. E. She
was also the f i r s t woman i n A l b e r t a t o r e c e i v e a cream t e s t e r ' s
C e r t i f i c ate.
She was married to E r i e Carr June 20, 1918 i n Calgary. They
have one daughter, Mrs. J . Mc Arthur, Calgary, and two granddaughters.
Mrs. Carr has always been keenly i n t e r e s t e d i n C i v i c A f f a i r s and
p o l i t i c s - . In recent years she has devoted much time to P i s h and Game
matters. Her hobbies include f l o w e r s , gardening, n e e d l e c r a f t and
e s p e c i a l l y needlepoint and a" uilting.
Mrs. Carr joined the Acadia W. I. A p r i l 13, 1914 and was a member
u n t i l i t d i v i d e d and she j o i n e d the x i u x l e y W. I. around 1932. They
then moved south where she joined the Kinniburgh W. I. and was a member
u n t i l they moved t o the R i c i n u s d i s t r i c t where they are now r e t
i r e d . Mrs. Carr joined the Eine Cone W. I. which s t a r t e d i n 1957.
We are proud to have her as a member as she i s always w i l l i n g t o do
her share.
