Martha L i l l i a n , eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R e i l l y , was
born i n Toronto, Ontario, i n 1888* She came Jest to alberta with
her parents i n 1903, to the Red Leer Indian Industrial School, where
they lived for two years. In 1905, her father took a homestead at
l e s l l e v i l l e , where they spent many happy days.
The family was noted for i t s a b i l i t y to entertain, and was i n
great demand at social functions a l l over the country. Mattie as she
was then known, was always the organist or pianist. She carried on
with this work a l l her l i f e , wherever she lived.
In 1911, sne was united i n marriage to Angus MoColl Martin, and
moved to Rocky Mountain house, where they lived t i l l 1915, when they
returned to their farm.
The Beaver Flat Women's Institute was organized i n 1932, and Mrs.
