At the Federated l e v e l she served a three year term on the
Tweedsmuir Committee, two years as Junior Board member o f the FWIC
and three years as Senior Board member. In 1978 she was the r e c i p i e nt
of a Queen's medal given by FWIC to the P r o v i n c i a l Presidents.
She has attended FWIC Conventions i n Winnipeg and Banff at which
time she acted on the planning committee. At the FWIC Convention to
Charlottetown, P. E. I, she conducted a bus tour for the f i r s t time f o r
A l b e r t a members wishing to attend, and w i l l go to the 1979 Convention
i n Saskatoon where she w i l l act as Recording Secretary.
She attended the Associated Country Women of the World Conference
i n Perth, West A u s t r a l i a as a v o t i n g delegate and as the second Council
member i n 197^. In 1977 as leader o f the A l b e r t a Delegation she attended
the Conference held i n N a i r o b i , Kenya as 1st Council member and
v o t i n g delegate. Following t h i s Conference the " Water f o r Kenya Wishing
Wells" became a p r o j e c t with over $ 3000 being raised a t the 1978 AWI
Convention i n Olds.
Bette i s a member of the United Church. Her other i n t e r e s t i s
the Wetaskiwin A l l i e d Art and C r a f t Centre of which she was one of the
founding members and served as Secretary for seventeen years. She i s
p r e s e n t l y serving t h i s organization as 1st Vice President. She also
teaches several c r a f t s at the centre.
The Ballhorns are semi r e t i r e d but continue to make t h e i r home
on the farm which i s now managed by son Wayne and h i s wife Lynn who i s
also an a c t i v e I n s t i t u t e member.
