and Shauavon where she met and married the l a t e W i l l i a m James
Thomson on August 6, 1919. Later they moved to Olds, A l b e r t a,
where Mr. Thomson received h i s degree i n A g r i c u l t u r e i n 1926.
Grande P r a i r i e then became t h e i r home f o r many happy years and
i t was here that Mrs. Thomson joined the Women's I n s t i t u t e i n
1931. Their f a m i l y of three: June, Mrs. E. A. Boyd of Calgary,
James of Toronto, and Eleanor, Mrs. W. B. Purvis of Cold Lake,
a l l - continued with t h e i r education to U n i v e r s i t y and are f o l l o w i
n g t h e i r chosen professions.
Mrs. Thomson has been an a c t i v e member of the Edmonton
W. I. and has held a number of o f f i c e s i n c l u d i n g that of branch
p r e s i d e n t , v i c e - p r e s i d e n t and secretary as w e l l as a c t i n g as
Convener of Home Economics, Education, C i t i z e n s h i p and of the
Tea Room at the Edmonton E x h i b i t i o n . On the Constituency l e v el
she has served as Constituency Convener and represented the
Women's I n s t i t u t e when the Edmonton C i t i z e n s h i p C o u n c i l was
formed. Here she made her c o n t r i b u t i o n welcoming the new c i t i z e ns
and d i r e c t i n g them i n f i n d i n g the best A l b e r t a has to o f f e r.
Mrs. Thomson has taken an a c t i v e part i n church work i n
the c i t y i n M e t r o p o l i t a n United Ghurch, i n the Women's A u x i l i a r y,
M i s s i o n a r y Society and as Sunday School Superintendent of the Primary
Section. She has also held o f f i c e s i n the Edmonton Y. V. C. A.
and C. G. I. T. Boards. " A conscientious worker at whatever she
undertakes"; " A true Countrywoman" i s how her f r i e n d s describe her.
She was presented v/ ith a L i f e Membership i n 1956 by the Edmonton
W. I.
