A busy personal l i f e has not prevented Mrs. Faulkner
from taking an a c t i v e part i n a l l community a c t i v i t i e s , especi
a l l y the V/ omen's I n s t i t u t e . She has been a continuous and
a c t i v e member since J u l y 1938 of the Grimshaw Branch.
The Grimshaw V/. I. presented Mrs. Faulkner with a L i fe
Membership i n r e c o g n i t i o n of her outstanding work i n our V/. I .
Cemetery. The Cemetery has become s e l f - s u p p o r t i n g with i t s
own bank account since she took over. She was elected Convener
of the Cemtery Committee i n March 1950, a p o s i t i o n she has held
since that time and, f o r the most p a r t , has been the only member
on the committee. She has held f u l l r e s p o n s i b i l i t y f o r surveying,
s e l l i n g p l o t s , purchasing equipment such as garden t r a c t o r , lawn
mower, etc., a l s o g r a v e l l i n g and snow plowing of driveway. V/ hen
v o l u n t a r y a s s i s t a n c e f o r upkeep became inadequate, she procured
the services of a caretaker and arranged f o r c o n s t r u c t i o n of a
cement curbing along driveway. She contributes generously of her
time and money t r a v e l l i n g i n a l l kinds of weather whenever c i r cumstance
demands i t . She keeps a l l records and monies pertainin,;
to the cemetery. A Cemetery Memorial Fund was e s t a b l i s h e d by her
i n 1952 and i n June 1953 she organized our f i r s t Decoration Day.
Mrs. Faulkner served four years aa President of G rimshaw
V/. I., n e a r l y seven years as t r e a s u r e r and four years as Constituency
Convener. In 1959 she prepared and read the 25 year H i s t o ry
of the V/. I. at the 25th Anniversary Banquet, and presented the V/. I.
w i t h a new Charter as the o r i g i n a l had been l o s t . At present she
i s the H i s t o r i a n . She has f i l l e d i n as s e c r e t a r y , has been press
r e p o r t e r , d i r e c t o r and head of committees over the years.
She i s a l s o an a c t i v e L i f e Member of Cancer S o c i e t y . She i s
Education Convener of l o c a l Pea, ce R i v e r Branch and doing e x c e l l e nt
work w i t h the Poster Contest. She wa, s responsible f o r o r g a n i z i ng
Ladies A u x i l i a r y to Canadian Legion, Gpimshaw Branch § 253, serving
as the f i r s t President f o r two years; Zone Commander f o r f o u r and
D i s t r i c t Commander f o r two years. Has served as Honored Royal Lady
i n the- Royal Purple Lodge f o r two years and i s at present Badge
Secretary f o r the Ladies A u x i l i a r y to Brownies and G i r l Guides.
