Member when i t was organized i n June 1938 and was the f i r s t
s e c r e t a r y and has h e l d o f f i c e i n some capacity since that
time. Prom 1948 t o 1952 she served as Constituency Convener
f o r the Red Deer Centre Constituency. At the 1953 P r o v i n c i a l
Convention she was e l e c t e d to the p o s i t i o n o f P r o v i n c i a l Secr
e t a r y , h o l d i n g the o f f i c e f o r the maximum term of f o u r years.
In 1955 she \^ as e l e c t e d Federated Representative and again i n
1957.
Mrs. Prendergast's i n t e r e s t s are not confined to the
A. V. I.. During t h i s time she was a l s o a member o f the Red
Deer H o s p i t a l A u x i l i a r y and has been on the Executive since
i t was i n s t i t u t e d , s e r v i n g as President f o r two years. She
i s a member of long standing of the L a d i e s ' Orange Benevolent
A s s o c i a t i o n and v/ as P r o v i n c i a l Grand M i s t r e s s f o r the 1951- 52
term, ably f i l l i n g the p o s i t i o n . She i s a l s o on the executive
of the Red Deer Cancer Society and takes a keen i n t e r e s t i n
C i v i l Defence a c t i v i t i e s , having taken one o f t h e i r courses a t
A r n p r i o r , Ontario. A capable woman w i t h a pleasing p e r s o n a l i ty
her s e r v i c e s are i n deman i n c i v i c matters around the c i t y o f
Red Deer.
Every branch i n the province i s proud to a c c l a i m t h is
honour that has been bestowed on Mrs. Prendergast by her own
group f o r her c o n t r i b u t i o n to the Alberta, Women's I n s t i t u t e s
has b e n e f i t t e d each i n d i v i d u a l o r g a n i z a t i o n.
