C. N. R. depot i n Mannville while her husband was overseas i n the
f i r s t World War. Upon h i s return they moved to the farm where they
spent f i f t y years.
B i r c h Creek W. I. was formed i n October, 1934 and although she
i s not a charter member she joined i n December, 193^ « She has
helped her Branch i n many ways and has held almost every o f f i c e.
In 1959 she attended the A. C. W. W. Conference i n Scotland with a
s i s t e r , Mrs. Knight, a member of the Witcham E l y W. I. She s t i ll
corresponds with t h i s W. I. and has many f r i e n d s.
Dorthea has raised a family of f i v e , one son and four daughters
a l l who have been W. I. members.
Mrs. McFadden now l i v e s alone and i s s t i l l able to look a f t er
everything, e s p e c i a l l y her garden, flowers and her A f r i c a n v i o l e t s.
Our honored member i s s t i l l very active and at present i s on
the S o c i a l Services Committee f o r v i s i t i n g the sick, sending cards
and telephoning. I t i s hoped her enthusiasm w i l l serve as an
i n s p i r a t i o n to the younger members of the " Birch Creek W. I."
