Coraing West f o r h i s health i n 1905, the Browns settled
i n Edmonton and she has resided i n the c i t y since that date.
In 1919 when the Edmonton Women's I n s t i t u t e was organized
by N e l l i e McClung, Mrs. Brown became a Charter Member.
One of her greatest pleasures has been to work at the Women's
I n s t i t u t e Tea Room as a hostess and enjoy the fellowship of
meeting the ladies from the country who stop i n to rest and
chat and to get better acquainted with t h e i r c i t y s i s t e r s.
Widowed i n 1 9 2 1 , Mrs. Brown worked i n the ilttendance
Branch of the Department of Education for eleven years.
Edmonton Women's Institute presented Mrs. Brown with
a L i f e Membership i n the Alberta Women's Institutes December
1, 1951 - the seventh woman i n Alberta to b^ so honored. The
presentation was made by the Edmonton W. I. president, Mrs. V/.
Wood, at the home of Mrs. Watt where the I n s t i t u t e had met t o
enjoy t h e i r Christmas party.
Mrs. Brown says:
" I am very proud to wear the L i fe
Membership Pin of the Alberta Women's I n s t i t u t e s ."
Mrs. Brown died February 25, 1962 and v/ as buried i n
the family plot at Carleton Place, Ontario.
