there was no Women's I n s t i t u t e , she and two other former
- institute members, organized a branch ( Jasper W. I.)' She
was elected the f i r s t president - an o f f i c e she held f o r
three years. She also served as leader of the A. W. I.
G i r l s ' Clubs of which Jasper had three and Constituency
Convener. She remained a member of Jasper W. I. f o r t h i r t y
years from 1923 to 1953 when she moved to Vancouver, B. C.
Before her departure for Vancouver, Jasper W. I.
presented Mrs. Pugh with a L i f e Membership i n recognition
of her outstanding service to the branch. The following
account appeared i n the June 1953 issue of Home and Country:
!' The presentation of a L i f e Membership C e r t i f i c a te
and pin to Mrs. George Pugh was a feature of the
Jasper Women's Institute's 29th Anniversary meeting
held at the home of Mrs. David Walker. The presentation
was made by Mrs.. Lottie Howe, former Institute
member and co- worker with Mrs. Pugh i n years gone by.
Mrs. Pugh was the f i r s t President of Jasper W. I. and
has always been In the forefront of a l l i t s undertakings
as well as taking an active part i n I n s t i t u te
G i r l s ' Clubs."
When Mrs. Pugh arrived i n Vancouver she joined the
Point Grey W. I. where she has held the o f f i c e of secretary,
president and i s at present treasurer.
Mr. and Mrs. Pugh had three sons and a daughter.
