1966 EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES
P i n e Lake W. I. had a membership o f f i f t e e n d u r i n g 1966 with
P r e s i d e n t , Marion Brown; S e c r e t a r y , Irma Lawrence; and T r e a s u r e r , L o t t i e Johl.
Mrs. Echo Noyes was a new member t h i s year and Mrs. Betty Whittemore moved to
h e r new home near Delburne. Mrs. l a t H a m i l l a l s o moved t o B u r n t Lake. The
y e a r began w i t h a balance of 827.72 i n the bank and f i n i s h e d w i t h $ 245.36 - a
t i d y p r o f i t f o r a l o t o f good f e l l o w s h i p!
Some o f t h e o l d p r o j e c t s we c o n t i n u e d with i n c l u d e d our
c l i p p e r c l u b each month as w e l l as t h e 500 c l u b . A t o t a l of $ 33.00 was coll
e c t e d f o r the cancer fund. We c o n t i n u e d to s p o n s o r our Korean handicapped f o s t er
c h i l d . We entered 13 a r t i c l e s ( 7 f i r s t s , 6 seconds) i n the h a n d i c r a f t tea f or
the c o n s t i t u e n c y . The c e n t e n n i a l corner was c o n t i n u e d as was the coffee party
h e l d a t Tent Town. We r e c e i v e d f i r s t p r i z e a t t h e Red Deer P a i r w i t h our group
o f f i v e : a ceramic bean pot, k n i t t e d sweater, basket, hat, and a hooked rug.
The rug was a group p r o j e c t and l a t e r r a f f l e d and won by Bob Lawrence. Summer
swimming l e s s o n s were h e l d once a g a i n w i t h 37 p u p i l s t h i s year at Tent Town
( 12 t a d p o l e s , 11 b e g i n n e r s , 4 j u n i o r s , 1 i n t e r m e d i a t e , 6 j u n i o r mothers, and 3 b e g i n n i n g mothers). The g a t h e r i n g of d i s h e s and c u t l e r y a l s o c a r r i e d on for
use a t t h e Hub. Our s e c r e t . s i s t e r p r o j e c t continued as d i d the b i r t h d a y b a r r el
each month w i t h members paying 50 f o r each room i n t h e i r home when they had a
b i r t h d a y . Family swimming was h e l d once each month d u r i n g Jan., Feb., Mar.,
Oct., Nov., and Dec. This was h e l d a t t h e R e c r e a t i o n Center Pool w i t h a charge
o f $ 1.50 per f a m i l y . December saw our a n n u a l f a m i l y supper for W. I. members.
Christmas cards were sent t o f o r m e r members.
There were s e v e r a l i n t e r e s t i n g new p r o j e c t s begun i n 1966.
The W. I. a s s i s t e d Mr. R. B e c k i n g s a l e i n g a t h e r i n g f a m i l y h i s t o r i e s for a Centenn
i a l H i s t o r y Book. A s s i s t a n c e l a t e r turned i n t o much l i s t e n i n g of past s t o r i e s,
w r i t i n g , e d i t i n g , r e w r i t i n g and f u r t h e r e d i t i n g i n o r d e r for our F i n e Lake
H i s t o r y t o be r e c o r d e d . A " t h a n k f u l fund" was e s t a b l i s h e d to f i n a n c e our f o s t e r
c h i l d . Each member c o n t r i b u t e d a s m a l l amount o f s i l v e r whenever she had
something f o r which t o be t h a n k f u l . The making and s e l l i n g of " B a r b i e " doll
c l o t h e s f o r 750 - $ 1.00 proved busy. A bake s a l e h e l d d u r i n g b o n s p i e l week
r e a l i z e d a p r o f i t o f $ 32.75. A baked bean supper f o r the F. D. A. c u r l i n g b o n s p i el
saw us charge 500 a p l a t e f o r $ 45.40. At a n o t h e r F. U. A. meeting we s o l d c o f f ee
and doughnuts. This was the y e a r of Penhold's 50th A n n i v e r s a r y and s e v e r al
a t t e n d e d from our b r a n c h . A t e a was h e l d i n Red Deer f o r 2 l a d i e s v i s i t i n g from
Guyana. Our branch a l s o made a q u i l t f o r U. S. C. i n 1966.
