1965 EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES 16 members were e n r o l l e d i n t h e P i n e Lake W. I. i n 1965. E i g h t new members were welcomed: Mrs. P a t H a m i l l , Mrs. Irene O t i s , Mrs. E l la Pennock, Mrs. Sandra P i e r c e , Mrs. L o t t i e P o h l , Mrs. Irma Lawrence, and Mrs. Denise Robinson. P e r f e c t attendance was a t t a i n e d by Mrs. R. Brown, Mrs. R. C l u t t o n , Mrs. J . Sawyer, and Mrs. W. D. Smith. New b a b i e s : Douglas John Sawyer, Gordon I a n Whittemore, Darcy P a u l O t i s , and Kim Marlene P i e r c e. Deaths: Roger Romaine P i e r c e d i e d A p r i l 4, 1965. PROJECTS: A four- game c r o k i n o l e s e r i e s was h e l d i n February and March. Some o f t h e p r i z e s were o b t a i n e d w i t h Nabob coupons. $ 20.54 was r e a l i z e d w i t h t h i s p r o j e c t as w e l l as f u n f o r the community. Grand p r i ze winners were Mr. Joe Dreeshen, Mrs. C. Moore, Ted Dreeshen, and Wendy Warke. Grand l o s e r s were Mr. R. C l u t t o n , Mrs. W. Whittemore, Danny Smith, and Debra Brown. A b a r b i e d o l l was purchased, dressed, and r a f f l e d . Mrs. Hannah, Red Deer and mother o f f o u r s m a l l c h i l d r e n , was t h e l u c k y t i c k e t h o l d e r. $ 33.66 was r a i s e d w i t h t h i s p r o j e c t. Four complete l a y e t t e s were sent to t h e U n i t a r i a n S e r v i ce Committee of Canada. Most of t h e f l a n e l e t t e was donated by Eatons, Simpson- S e a r s , and The Hudson Bay. $ 44.50 was c o l l e c t e d d u r i n g the a n n u a l Cancer Canvass. 1965 Garden Club f e a t u r e d 9 Pee Wee ( ages 6& 7) and 24 J u n i or ( ages 8- 12) Gardens. Grand winners were Lenora Beck and Faddy Douglas. The top s i x gardens were awarded r i b b o n s as w e l l as 50( 2 b e i n g awarded t o every gardener f o r a completed e f f o r t. Red Cross Swimming l e s s o n s were a g a i n sponsored a t Tent Town. Ten l e s s o n s werp g i v e n Monday and Thursday a t 1 p. m. by M i s s Beth Starchuck t o f o u r c h i l d r e n ' s c l a s s e s and one a d u l t c l a s s . 24/ 39 c h i l d r e n and 7/ 9 a d u l ts r e g i s t e r e d took the f i n a l t e s t s . 12 B e g i n n e r and 3 J u n i o r badges were presented a t t h e c u l m i n a t i o n wiener r o a s t p a r t y . The i n s t r u c t o r was p a i d 80 per m i le f o r t r a v e l l i n g expenses and $ 5.00 p e r i n s t r u c t i o n a l hour. Income—$ 106.60 and expenses—$ 155.00. A morning c o f f e e p a r t y was t r i e d t h i s year i n s t e a d o f the customary a f t e r n o o n tea. The June event at Tent Town f e a t u r e d c o f f e e , m u f f i n s, and jam. A door p r i z e p l u s the s a l e o f b a k i n g and p l a n t s c r e a t e d g r e a t e r i n t e r e s t . Door r e c e i p t s amounted to $ 19.40 and s a l e goods $ 63.13. The Red Deer Centre C o n s t i t u e n c y Women's I n s t i t u t e annual h a n d i c r a f t d i s p l a y and t e a was h e l d a t t h e Gaetz Memorial U n i t e d Church, Red Deer P i n e Lake W. I. entered eighteen a r t i c l e s — 7 f i r s t s , fc^ econds, 3 t h i r d s . Mrs. D. Lawrence was convener. The Red Deer Advocate requested r e c i p e s f o r a s p e c i a l r e c i pe supplement and each member was asked to c o n t r i b u t e a f a v o r i t e. The C e n t e n n i a l Corner p r o j e c t begun i n 1964 was continued h e l p i n g to make Pine Lake a more a t t r a c t i v e spot i n A l b e r t a . A c o f f e a p a r t y was h e l d i n Red Deer t o mark a v i s i t from Dr. L. Hitschmanova. Mrs. R. Brown attended the November 29th event a t which 20 y e a r s of U. S.
