Pine Lake - Doris Warke
June II meeting uas held at Pine
j Lake Hub. Our annual coffee party
was very successful with an alien
• dance of over 80 people.
Farmers' Market, sponsored by us
every Friday has been well attended
We also hope to have the WI floral
cup and saucer arrangement class
included in the Crossroads Ag Fair in
August.
Plans are to he finalized for Pine
Lake WI to be involved tn a quilting
demonstration and display at the
Westerner Fair in July, as well as plans
for our annual summer tour.
The meeting concluded by answering
the roll call with a remembrance
of an early convention or conference

Pine Lake Hub. evening of Oct. 8, with 10
members and a visitor in attendance.
Wc will continue our suppon of Unit
37, Red Deer Regional Hospital, in cooperation
with their need.
Our jelly project will also be continued
Plans were completed for our gift to our
pen pal in Haden. Australia We will also
attend the quilting bee al Lynn Ballhom's
house, this month, ( o help complete the
quilt for District 3.
Marion Brown plans to attend ( he mint
ACWW conference in October
We will donate a gift for auction to the
Pine Lake Hub for ihe annual Horse Video
Race Night, in November
Carolyn Richards, as International
Affairs convener, told us about Alice, the
women's representative in Ikafe. and her
neighbor. Lona, and how their lives have
changed as they tackle new roles and dif-ferenl
lasks in the Sudan. She also told us
about the effect this has had on their lives

!- The December meeting
held in the Hub Community
Centre was our Christmas
meeting at which our secret
sisters were revealed, and
new ones drawn for 1997.
One of our money making
projects of making and
selling jelly proved successful
and $ 100 of the profit
was donated toward the cost
of the new Elnora- Pine
Lake history book, Buried
Treasures Book 2.
New programs were
handed out for the year
1997 and President Marilyn
Wattenbarger made the suggestion
that all the
Education conveners involve
their minute- minders each
month around information
concerning Hong Kong
since that area will be under
Chinese authority instead
of British rule as of this
summer.
The sale of Pine Lake WI
calendars is going slowly
but surely.
Kathleen Lawrence
reported that another 91
knitted squares have been
mailed for the project.
Several members carried
our congratulations to
Lacombe 4 Pt. WI when
they celebrated their 50th
anniversary last month.
Plans are being completed
to store all our Pine Lake
WI records in the Archives
in the Red Deer and District
Museum and Archives.
Members brought cookies
which will be included
with others from the Red
Deer Centre WI Constituency
for the Meals on Wheels
Christmas project.
Pins honoring the 100th
Anniversary of Women's
Institute at Federated level
have been ordered for each
of our members.

were made to the Women's
Emergency Shelter in Red
Deer and to the Red Deer
Food Bank.
Draws were made for
two Christmas gifts from
Haden branch Women'. s
Institute in Australia.
Education Convener for
Home E c , Doris Warke,
gave a short program on
Christmas verses, gifting
ideas and gift packaging.
Education Convener, Marion
Brown, presented a short
program about Kruger Park
in South Africa.

The QnnfagT meeting began wiih
Kathleen Lawrence as handicraft convener,
demonstrating the art of mosaic
knitting With instructions, wool and
needles we all proceeded to leam the
craft.
A Christmas card in the form of a
photograph album with pictures of
each individual and her family has
been sent to our WI pen pan in Haden,
Australia.
A gift for the Raggedy Ann and
Andy gift shop at Red Deer Museum
and Archives has been donated as
requested for their Christmas project
Our annual jelly project is almost
completed.
A WI donation of a basket of jars
of jelly was donated to the Pine Lake
Hub for a prize for their fundraiser
video horse race night.
The roll call, show and tell about
the oldest article you have, proved
very interesting.
