1990 EVENTS ( Continued) BRANCH AND COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES ( Cont'd.) Iarkland Mall Bazaar J e l l y ft Baking Sales - $ 352.70 " Grandmother's Flower Garden" Quilt and Cushion Raffle - Robin Lawrence won the 3/ 4' size quilt and Gwen Renouf, the cushion Red Deer Westerner Group of FIVE - 2nd - 110.00 The above quilt had placed 1st in competition. Crossroads Ag Fair - Sponsored Needlecraft Class Winner was Ruth Bolze who won a pair of scissors Family Christmas Supper with 36 present UNICEF Christmas cards sent to former members CONSTITUENCY ACTIVITIES: Handicraft Display and Tea - 34 a r t i c l e s i n competition with 20 placing f i r s t . Outstanding Class - Marion Brown's two piece slack suit Sampler Competition won by L i l l i e Clutton ( 1st), Gayle Olson ( 2nd), Doris Warke ( 3rd), Irma Lawrence( 4th). Constituency Conference - Wanda Andrews was o f f i c i a l delegate Doris Warke, Marion Brown and Kathleen Lawrence also attended. 8 branches with 118 members. Constituency dues raised to $ 20.00 per branch Red Deer Centre W. I. 70th Anniversary celebrated i n the Penhold Memorial Hall October 6, 1990. Marion Brown, Kathleen Lawrence and L i l l i e Clutton helped to present the afternoon program. ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTES PROJECTS: D i s t r i c t III Conference at Camrose attended by Kathleen Lawrence ( delegate), Doris Warke and Marion Brown. 2 a r t i c l e s donated to the Silent Auction - funds toward D i s t r i c t Director's travelling expenses. On the f i n a l day of the conference, a storm blew i n with snow and slush depositing homecomers ( PLWI members) in the ditch. Rescue came via K. Lawrence's AMA card submitted to the tow truck driver. No damage was done! Provincial Convention - Kathleen Lawrence o f f i c i a l delegate 1st Vice President position becomes " Pesident Elect" £ 25.00 to A. W. I. G i r l s ' Club. FEDERATED WOMEN'S INSTITUTES OF CANADA: Rural Child Study ASSOCIATED WOMEN OF THE WORLD: South Africa - Donation made each month as specified by verse Pennies for Friendship - $ 20.58 World Food Day - 325.00 Haden QCWA - Correspondence and Gift exchange. Marion Brown was deeply saddened at the death of her long time correspondent, Rosalie Newton, Feb. 6, 1990 at age 86 years. They had been pen friends for 27 years. !.
