Women's Institute, each of
our members received a
100th year anniversary pin
from our local institute.
A very interesting program
was presented by
Citizenship Convener. Millie
Munro. She mentioned that
citizenship is the duties of a
person's conduct as a citizen.
Legislation is the act or
process of making a law or
laws. Paul Martin, Sr., a
cabinet minister who, after
visiting graves of fallen soldiers
at Dieppe, and
touched by the sight, decided
that Canadians fully
deserved their own unique
citizenship. Thus, the
Canadian Citizenship Act
came into being 50 years
ago, January, 1947. One
feature of the act provided
that married women would
not lose their citizenship if
their husbands became
citizens of another country.
