WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
PINE LAKE WOMEN'S
INSTITUTE
Home Economics
Convener, Marilyn
Wattenbarger, brought a different
aspect to her conven-ership
by discussing the simple,
free gifts of living. She
urged the members of the
Pine Lake Women's
Institute to practise the art
of frugality, delight in ordinary
things, grasp opportunities
that bring you humhle
pleasures and sew seeds of
time and grace. Each member
wrote down ten joys in
her life that cost nothing
and shared them with the
group. A great exercise as
we go into a new year!
Teressa Greening,
Environment Convener,
brought to the attention of
the branch the concern
being expressed with
Corsair Exploration Inc.' s
application to remove 80
million gallons/ year of water
from the North
Saskatchewan River for the
use in oil production. There
is a concern regarding the
recharging of the aquifers in
this vast area as well as the
interruption of the natural
water cycle.
On Friday, December 7.
the annual family Christmas
turkey supper was enjoyed
by 30 adults and 12 children.
Santa paid his regular visit
to the delight of the children
who each received a gift.
BINGO provided entertainment
for the gathering as
the children took turns calling
the numbers for the
Loonie game prizes.
The Australian Pen
Friend Link continues
through Lyn Reinke of
Haden, Queensland. The
branch received a Christmas
letter as well as a calendar
which was won by draw by
Irma Lawrence.
President Kathleen
Lawrence presented the outline
for the new year.
Alberta Women's Institutes
are twinned with Women's
Institutes of Newfoundland
and Labrador for 2002.
Studies will center around
this twinning as well as
" International Year of the
Mountains and Ecotourism."
The Adelaide Hoodless
Homestead Fund was supported
by a donation from
each of the members from
their " stocking" monthly collection.
A donation of $ 50
was also sent to the AWI
Office Fund. At a local level,
each member donated two
dozen cookies for the
Constituency project contributing
to Meals on
Wheels.
As a prelude to the
exchange of gifts among the
members, Doris Warke
imparted personal glimpses
of all Santa's Reindeer. She
named each reindeer and
told of the special attribute
each possessed. Each lady
received a gift of her choice
as well as a card identifying
her 2001 secret sister. Fun
time i n the form of " match"
tricks and word synonyms
was provided by Kathleen
Lawrence.
Kathleen Lawrence
pinned the President's ribbon
on incoming President
Doris Warke as the branch
looks toward 2002. The
branch will continue to meet
the second Tuesday of each
month and would be happy
to have anyone interested in
" Home and Country" to join
the group.
