was the draw " or the famous " Dream Boat Quilt " . Little Jessie
Noble stirred thej Tickets and pulled out NO. Qe which had
been bought by Mrs. Gordon. Budd^ who then became the owner of
the quilt. The sum of *? r. i' 4- was added to the cemetery find.
Under the guidance of Linda Betts a " nosegay" quilt was
made in 1957 with Individual members making the blocks, The
qull*" lng was done at Ruth Wiley's and Anne Montalbetti finished
the * » dge.
For several years the women made two " W. I." quilts each
winter, one pieced and the other appliqued. Designs have Included
pansy , tulip ( 2) , rose , made leaf ( 2). As an indication of the
rise In prices , our first maple leaf quilt made in 1 97U sold for
350.00, while the second one sold In 197R for $ 150,00. We exhibit
our quilts at the W. I, annua1 convention and at. Red Beer, Bentley
and Rimbey as wen as at our Constituency Handicraft tea. The
prize money often covers the cost of materials - and there Is
rauc ri satisfaction and pride In seeing a red ribbon on our work.
We have filled many orders for quilting . As a rule . these
are completed tops , with lining and filling supplied by the
customers.
During the last three years , we have completed six quilts
for the Red Cross Society, which supplies all materials. These
are sold at their Annual auctions in Calgary and Edmonton. Those
made by uar Institute have sold for from $ 60. to $ 190.
For Mrs. G. Holmes we made over two dozen quilts. Two
of these were hand appliqued in a large " daisy " patter" cut.
