FEDERATED WOMEN'S INSTITUTES OF CANADA
As Women's Institute work expanded in Canada, it was felt
more could be accomplished by having a Dominion Federation. In
February, 1919 representatives from each of the provinces met in
Winnipeg, Manitoba and at this meeting formed a national
organization. Approval was given by the Honourable T. A. Crear,
Federal Minister of Agriculture.
The office was first set up in Ottawa in October, 1958. The
purpose and objectives are to co- ordinate programs across the
provinces and to provide a medium of inter- communication among
the Women's Institute Branches.
In September, 2003, the F. W. I. C. office was moved to the
Adelaide Hoodless Homestead at St. George, Ontario.
