FOREWORD compiled "A Story of the Alberta Women's Institutes". They stated in their Foreword, dated May 15, 1937: "This little story of the Alberta \\/omen's Institutes can not do justice to the wonderful women through,)Ht the province, \\7ho have given such splendid service as provincial officers, district directors, convenors of standing committees, constitu. ency convenors, and officers of Branch Institutes. Few of their names are recorded here. To them and to that great body of individual members who are responsible for the magnificent work accomplished throughout the years, we would pay sincere homage. They have worked nobly and weil without thought of compensation or acclaim and their names are written in the memories of the people they have so unselfishly served. "Appreciation must also be expressed to a government which set this whole organization into motion and showed such a keen interest in the welfare of rural women. A tribute is also due to that government \vhich while they cut the Alberta Women's Institute adrift, did so in so gradual a manner that it was possible to carryon. "To the following and all others who have helped provide the information contained in this story, thanks are hereby expressed: Mr. H. A. Craig, Deputy Minister of Agriculture; Mrs. J. F. Price, Vancouver; Mrs. M. E. Graham, Lea Park, (Heinsburg P.O.); Mrs. C. Lynch. Staunton, Lundbreck; Mrs. L. C. l"IcCrimmon, Sylvan Lake; Mrs. E. R. lVIorley, Verdant Valley; Mrs. IV1.F. Malkinson, Fairview; Mrs. S. F. O'Brien, Berwyn; Mrs. H. W. Quail, Round Hill; Mrs. C. W. 'fait, Cereal; Mrs. W. R. Roberts, Sexsmith; Mrs. M. A. Upcott, Mahaska; Mrs. Alice L. Wood, Penhold; The Edmonton Journal; and The Calgary Herald." Twelve years later in 1949, Mrs. Cornelia R. Wood compiled a supplement to the Story, with the object of making facts regarding the continued growth and work of The Alberta Women's Institutes, available to all Institute members and friends. The story of the growth of The Alberta Women's Institute Girls' Clubs was also included. Progress has been slow and steady since the formation of the first IVomen's Institute branch in Alberta and the achievements indieate the development that is possible in the future. The things that endure are the values that have been created and the supplement placed emphasis on them. At that time thanks were extended to Mrs. E. E. Morton, Pro. vincial President, and Mrs. C. G. Strong, Provincial Secretary, who made records available, and to all others who sent authentic information which was used in compiling the supplement. :1 t o C lb o INtu1t9e3s,7 aMrtsh.e Addireelcatiidoen Mfonthtgeomeoruyncial nodf tlheIrsA.
