from each club, accompanied by their Supervisor, travel to Olds to spend an educational and fun-filled week. The girls picked for this usually earn the trip by having the highest number of points. in proficiency in their club. There are business meetings, classes in handicrafts, health, deportment and cooking while their Supervisors. meet to discuss their problems and exchange ideas. There are competitions for trophies in sports, public speaking, short stories, art and handicraft with a special large trophy presented to the Club having the highest overall score. There is a Fashion Parade where the girls model the clothes they made during the year and it is followed by a formal Tea, and of course there is a masquerade party where both girls and Supervisors enter into the fun. A get-acquainted Party is held on the opening night and at the banquet on the closing night, the trophies are presented to the winners. It is a wonderful experience for any girl between the ages of six and twenty-one, to belong to the Alberta Women's Institute Girls' Club. The Club colors are white and green, the uniform is a green skirt and white blouse, a green and white beanie and the Club crest. From this group of girls will come the helpful women and leaders of tomorrow. Excerpts from Bancroft Buttercups A.W.LG.C. Programming for the club year is aided by suggestions made by the Club members for roll calls, songs, demonstrations, talks, etc. Program Booklets for each member are made giving places of meetings, roll calls, objectives, bit of fun, servers and special reminders. The Clubs invites people from the surrounding area to assist with demonstrations, talks, etc., helping to make the Club a more vital part of the Community. Meetings under the guidance of the Leader, are conducted by the girls themselves, thereby developing initiative and responsibility. The first hour of the meeting is for business, then an hour for handicraft, demonstration or talk and the last hour is for fun and lunch. The member who is hostess has two previously assigned assistants to help her serve the lunch. Merit Point System is used to encourage all members to participate in all phases of Club work and take pride in their uniforms. The Leader notes the points at each meeting for all the Members for attendance, uniform, answering roll call and objective. Objective includes such things as handicraft completed (each girl makes three articles during the year), for public speaking, baking contest or articles for a special project. These points count toward choosing the girls to attend the AW.I.G.C. Week at Olds. Each. Member getting to take the trip once. Public Speaking contributes much to the girls' poise and development. The six and seven year olds may say poems if they wish. Experienced speakers in the community give talks and pointers and the contests are judged by competent judges. Fund Raising is done mostly by holding of raffles and dances. Social Events for the Members takes the form of two parties a year-skating or tobogganing in winter and swimming in summer. To both, each girl invites one guest. . Achievement Day is held once a year in conjunction with several other Clubs. This enables the Members to show parents and others in the community what they are doing and builds Club spirit. The projects are judged by a Home Economist.
