Kone Oy is acquiring a major-it- y
shareholding in a Canadian
lift manufacturer owned by the
Montgomery Elevator Corpo-ration
of the US Kone's share
vvill be 51 per cent with the
remaining 49 per cent being
retained by the former parent
company
The Finnish company would
have liked to buy the shares in
their entirety but Montgome-ry
Elevator was unwilling to
relinquish its subsidiary alto-geth- er
Kone and Montgomery
have co-operat- ed earlier as

buyers Since interest rates in
OECD countries had been fall-in- g
the fixed interest loans
bearing an average interest of
1265 per cent had become at-tract- ive
to foreigners
For borrowers too the loans
at between 10 and 14 per cent
had still been cheap since the
price of foreign money had
been lower than at home
It was just this rapid growth
that induced the Bank of Fin-land
to ban the loans to fore-sta- ll
possible trouble ahead
The duration of the ban has not
yet been announced
Factory deal
for Raute
Raute Oy is to supply a prefa-bricate- d
wooden buildings fac-tory
to the Soviet Union The
contract for the $30m factory
was signed by Raute-Stre- if Oy
a Finnish-Germa- n joint ven-ture
Over 80 per cent of the
machinery and equipment vvill
be supplied by Raute its sub-sidiary
Infor Oy or sub-con-tract- ors
in Finland
The plant is to be built in
Tjumen on the River Tura in
Siberia and is the first com-ple- te
one of its kind to be sold
to a Soviet customer by a Finn-ish
company It vvill turn out
about 5000 wooden houses a
year

about a year ago Streif
Raute's partner in the venture
is West Germany's second-large- st
manufacturer of prefa-bricate- d
buildings and is main-l- y
contributing know-ho- w to

Boucher plant in the
northern French town were be-ing
switched off this August in

year and a turnover of almost
