Ontario from August 8th to
lOth
One of the basic issues
facing seniors at this Conven-tion
vvill be "The Green Paper
on Pension Reform" which was
tabled recently in the House of
Commons in Ottawa Pension
Reform can mean anything
from down grading the current
OAS (Old Age Security Pen-sion)
to placing greater reliance
on the GIS (Guaranteed In-co- me
Supplement) which

PROPOSES AS FOLLOWS
Amend the Age to Universal
OAS pension to $65000 per month fully indexed to
compensate for inflation and to be kept up to poverty line as
established time to Statistics Canada
the income-teste- d Guaranteed Income Supp-lement
into the Pension remove the hated means
test from the Age Security
Amend the Income Tax Act to exempt OAS pension
recipients with less than per income
paying any such tax
A progressively personal income tax on higher
incomes until those in the highest income refund
their share the OAS pension through the tax system
It is possible that task
force be set up by the
government to conduct hearings
across the country May we
suggest that Organiz- -
ations make their view known to
such a parliamentary task force
