To date we have had frieridly mee-;
tings .-«rith youth of several couritries
amongst' them Korea; Germhn?, H i i n -
gary, China, the Soviet Union, At

another and learn. conditions under
•which the youth. live; and the kind öf
opportunities the youth has m each

some: of their songs to us in beauti­ful

to look-into their eyes knowing that

millions of - their people and ruin theip
country. Upon our departure
many of us could: no longer control
ourselves and . broke - into . tears —
just as did the Koreans.

peace,- friendship and a better world

V iWe rushed out on the platlcrms or
stretched arms through coach win-dö-
ws .to meet firm handclaps and
words that we aU learned — "Pace"
— peace, "Prientenie" — friendhsip.
. And what our. smallvocabulrvry.;could
not express were conveyed by smiles
and hugs. Certamly we ali thought
and felt.that these :people:don't.want
wär and they look to us to help: kepp
the peace. These were the people
we met in^ each town as we approa-ched
Bucharest.
ECONOMIC OBSEEVATIONS
As we entered Romania, the first
thing-we saw from the wlndow of
the-train was a collective farm (later
we learned there are 1200 coUectives
liere). Contrasted with the small i n -
dlvidual farms that we 6aw as we
moved on. the callective farm was
modem and •»•eli planned. The •voric
that was i n process vas being done in
a co-operatlve -vvay and from the Jooks
of the coUective farm workerjj they
were farlng better than their brothers
Voricing their own small plots. .
The lai^er centres had some type
,of industdy. steel and iron mills, in
the oU-^ f ield area^ refmeries and
processing ' were numerous. Later
our interpreter iold us that Bomania
Is doing ali her ovn machine making
abd that she Is becoming gradually
,inore and more iidustrlallzed. We
saw this ourselves — great plants and
rcfinerie.<! and homes being bulh ft-,
•^long theVoutewe followed. • .We were
' told- that rather than., tlie; workers
suffering .from;; unemploymenti ,^-the
country-vas m a position-where it
could not fmd workers enough.
BECREATION FACILITIES
Numerous soccer fields, athletic
fields, voUey ball courts,. swimming
tanks were m evidence either already
in use or in the process of construc-r
