Grade Three to Five
D2av s:.ster Margaret.
I'm sorry I haven't written for a
long time
I've been busy doing my schoolwork,
I'm going to the new Prince Charles
school. I think you'll be a little sur-prised
that I m in grade five and I'm
only nine years old. I skipped from
grade three to five. Now Esko Harju,
what about boys being smai-ter than
girls? Listen to this! There was seven
of us that skipped and only one was a
boy.
I wish it would snow more so that,
we could go out and slide. We have i
s j c h a lovely place to slide. There is !
no danger of c?.rs bumping into us. ;
I hope Evelyn Kivi will be able to
gefc home for Christmas.
I wonder i f Ellen Pietilä cf Parks-ville,

hope she gets over the Chicken Pox

I'll clcse for now but I ' l l leave you

I'll answer it in my next letter.

myself because they are so cute and

Hallowe*en is over for another year
I didn't go out that night because
what would have happened if I met
a dreadul ghost. I mean, it was so
cold that night that I would have
been shivering with cold.
My favourite programmes are Red
Ryder, Roy Rogers, Outdoor Roundup,
Quiz for Kids and Herb Pauls ,which
I'm very found of listening to. I like
ali kinds of western music and adven-tures.
I am i n grade seven and I like
school very much. The hardest sub-ject

it so plainly that I know how
to do it in my sleep!
I wonder what's happened to Lea

From Finland
Dear big sister Margaret.
I thooght rd «Tite to teli everyone
wh9t"s going otj tn Mattava. My
moth«r has come b&ck from Finland
and she said she enjoyed the trip very
much. She saw two show8 on the ship.
X think one of them was "Neptane's
Daughter" because May saw the sarae
show and the way mother explained
the one she saw, it seemed to be the
same one May äaw. She brought back
lots of nice things from Finland.
Right now Pm listening to the
Happy Gang. Do I ever like listening
to them! My sister May didn*t
have to go to school today because
her teacher is sick. 1 guess l'd better
mention that May has come home
from CoiHier CUff and is now going
to school here.
Oh yes, sister Margaret. You asked
me what klnd of a club I belonged to.
Weil, 111 teli you. It Ls a small club
organlssed by the youngstcrs from
around here. We haven*t had very
many meetlngs because every time we
want to hold them the boys have
always gone to play hockey or rugby.
I can't remember when we started
the club. We've had a few dances and
one play. The name of the play wa8
"Nora, Wake Up". It was a good play
and we earned quite a blt of money
with it . We've got another play we"re
supposed to put on sometlrne but I
don't know when we'll get around to it.
We're havlng trouble getting a boy
to take one part wherc he ls supposed
to love the girl. The boys around here
are too shy. We club members have
to pay 10c a month for our fce. Wc
got our athletlc cards but we haven't
glven them out to the club members
yet. Weil. I guess I"ll taik about
^omettUng else.
What's the weather been like up
there, sister Margaret? It*s snowlng
outside nDw and we get snow almost
every day. I guess Winter is peeklng
around the eorner to see if autumn
has gone. Soon we'll be skatlng, slld-
Ing and skllng.
My brother Earl has gone to Quebec
and is supposed to come home soon.
Yesterday we moved our one and
only plg into a wanner place. I didn't
help but my brother and some other
boys had the job. It took about half
an hour before the boys got the i)lg
into lls new pen in the barn. It was
rcaUy ahard thlng to catch but fln-ally
It got so tlred out after all the
runnlng that the boys Just had to

'Dear sister Margaret,
j I am very sorrj- that I have not
vritten for siich a long time. This
i year I pass3d'to gräde five with ho-
: ncurs. I came second i n the class. I
• tried a grade sis Literature exam.
• Was it ever easy!
i, Last Priday my mother and father
j and I got a parcel from' Finland. In
I it I got two chocolate bars and a
I roimd box of candy.
About three months ago I started
I \ i o l i n lessons at the school. I am
i halfvay through ihe music book. I
! go every Saturcay. Last week I got a
nev.- misic book and so did my friend
j Marlane Pasanen. I haven"t got my
ov.n violin yet faecausa I use the
£ch:ols. There are two teachers there
Their names are Mr. Minor and Mr.
McNab.Sometimes Mr. McNab teach-es
me and at other. times Mr. Minor
does.
I wEnt to the show last night. \Vzs
it ever good!
The other day I fixed my toy tele-phcne.
.Ring! Ring! Will you please
excuse me, I must ansuer it new. Af-ter
oli the trouble of going to answer
it, it was the wrong number.
Now I will ask a riddle. There were
some peopls walking on the bridge.
They weren"t ladies, they weren"t men
or children. What vvere they? I will
3nsw€r it in my next letter.
Oh, yes, how I rememb?r something
else. When I read your letter i n the
paper I noticcd something that woke
me up frcm my long sleep and this is
\vhat you said, quots: "Varokaa siis
tytöt, etteivät pcjat valtaa teidän
kunnia-asemaanne kirjeiden kirjoittajina".
That sure woke me up from
my long nap. Thafs why I started to
write SO fast. From now on I ' l l try
to v.Tite for every week's paper. I
would like some penpals, too. Cheerio
for new!

Meidän koulustamihe on paljon lapsia
poLs y.skän takia. Minä en ole
vielä joutunut olemaan pois vaikka
onkin vähän kurkku kipeä.
Pyhäaamuna satoi paljon lunta
niutta se suli keskipäivällä. On oikein
ihana ilma ja on hauska kävellä kouluun.
Minä yritSn olla oikein kiltti ja toivon,
että toisetkin olisivat. Minun

Minä sain s:2n runcn, sisko Margaret,

Kouluun on kohta mentävä sillan

Mutta muuta tilaisuutta ei meillä ole.

Grade Three to Five
D2av s:.ster Margaret.
I'm sorry I haven't written for a
long time
I've been busy doing my schoolwork,
I'm going to the new Prince Charles
school. I think you'll be a little sur-prised
that I m in grade five and I'm
only nine years old. I skipped from
grade three to five. Now Esko Harju,
what about boys being smai-ter than
girls? Listen to this! There was seven
of us that skipped and only one was a
boy.
I wish it would snow more so that,
we could go out and slide. We have i
s j c h a lovely place to slide. There is !
no danger of c?.rs bumping into us. ;
I hope Evelyn Kivi will be able to
gefc home for Christmas.
I wonder i f Ellen Pietilä cf Parks-ville,
B.C. meant me when she asked
for Eira Elgbacka? Weil, I'm fine. I
hope she gets over the Chicken Pox
soon .
I'll clcse for now but I ' l l leave you
with a riddle to puzzle over. WIiat
goes up black and comes down smack?
I'll answer it in my next letter.
Cheerio for now!
Linda Elgbacka,
404 Nelson St., Sudbury.
Winter" is creeping around for
ahother long visit,
I was to a show i n October at the
Cenfory and W2s it ever a swell Picture.
It was "The Trail to Yukon"
and "Stagecoach K i d " . I went Avith
my neighbour's girl. Did sister Margaret
see it?
I have a bad cough but I gu€ss its
getting better npw. E\erybody seems
to have a cold around here. I wish
everyone with colds a speedy recoverj'
SO dress up varm.
We had eight puppies but I killed
foiu- of them and we have foiu- of
them left. I guess I ' l l keep two for
myself because they are so cute and
fat.
Hallowe*en is over for another year
I didn't go out that night because
what would have happened if I met
a dreadul ghost. I mean, it was so
cold that night that I would have
been shivering with cold.
My favourite programmes are Red
Ryder, Roy Rogers, Outdoor Roundup,
Quiz for Kids and Herb Pauls ,which
I'm very found of listening to. I like
ali kinds of western music and adven-tures.
I am i n grade seven and I like
school very much. The hardest sub-ject
for me to tmderstand is gi-ammar
but I'm not giving up until I under-stand
it so plainly that I know how
to do it in my sleep!
I wonder what's happened to Lea
Kauko, my penp3l. She hasn't writ-ten
to me. I guess .she is busy with
her grade 9 schoolwork.
Christmas will soon be here. I guess
ali the children know what to do. By
that I mean, of course, to be good.
Stady hard for your examinations, tod,
which aren't veiy far away a ny more.
By doing this, you'll be sure to find
your stocking full of good things left
by our old friend Santa Claus.
I guess thats ali for news this week.
