2 The Peace Treaties after World War II between the Allied Powers and
Hungary were concluded on February 10 1947 According to Part IV
Article 22 the withdrawal of Soviet forces was duc in 90 days after
the evacuation of Austria
Although since 1955 Üiere is no justification of the Soviets to maintain
supply lines to their Austrian occupying forces Hungary continues to
be forcibly and illegally occupied moreover sovietized to the present
day
The penetration of the Soviets continues protected by their occupying
forces and carried out by their puppet-governmen- ts Soviet interests
have consistently dominated the behavior of these puppet-governmen- ts at the expense of the nation
Hungary has always been an agricultural country primarily The forced
Lndustrialization of the country served only the interests of the Soviets
This has ruined the country's agrarian economy' Hungary's wheat
exports were always of intemational significance Today she is compcl-le- d to import wheat to be able to satisfy her own demand
The living conditions are so difficult that the formation of new families
is seriously impaired and this tragically hinders a balanced and reason-abl- e birthrate Hungárián population is sharply decreasing and Russian
colonists are settled with the sarcastic remarks " the Hungarians
don't want children" This situation became very serious with the puppet-gov-ernments'
recently enacted abortion laws To complete the
devilish plán: the Hungárián history taught in the schools is falsified
and the Russian language is a compulsory subject
3 Nothing could be farther from the Hungárián mentality than Com-munis- m
Hungarians will always reject this ideology in any form what-soev- er
It is not difficult to convince oneself of ample proof of this when
one recalls the innumerable executions jailings deportations intern-ments
etc which embraced all social levels in the country It is equally
historical fact that at the elections of 1947 the Communist received a
fractional part of the national vote only and that only after great
propaganda exertions after which they changed over to a one-part- y
system and sought the protection of the Soviet occupying forces to
gain control by default From this time on there was an increasing bit-terne- ss
against the ever mounting odds of suppressioríin all part of the
nation
r 4 Finally in October 1956 the Hungárián nation was so fed up that she
did no less than put intő effect her basic rights of SELF-DETERMINATI-ON
Hungary freed herself with a universal national will by her own
efforts from the Soviet overlordship
The victorious revolution which temporarily brought Hungary her
freedom was brutally crushed in a Soviet blood-bat- h and drastic re-percussi- ons were immediately started This agressive and unlawful
Soviet military intervention which was abetted by the Suez erisis again
robbed Hungary of her right of SELF-DETERMINATI-ON
This — con-trar- y
to the Charter of the UN — was tolerated by the United Nations
causing an undeniable loss of prestige to this world organization
efforts of "The Special Committee of the UN on The Problems of
Hungary" were frustrated by the Hungárián puppet-governme- nt by
denying access of the country to the representatives of the Committee
In this regard we wish to pay homage in the name of the whole Hun-gárián
nation expressing her gratitude to the memory of Paul Bang-Jense- n
who suffered such a tragic fate
5 After the Soviet butchery in Hungary we dared to hope with the nations
that the UN will find a road to Hungary's national survival This hope
was supported by the UN itself According to the findings of the Com-missi- on
of the Free Hungárián Jurists:

The Resolution of the UN of December 12 1956 (UN 1131-XI- )
declares the Soviet Union incapable of fulfilling her valid commitments
in to Hungary because "Hungary is deprived of her independ-eic- e
and the Hungárián people arc obstructed in practising their basic
rights"
resolutions of the UN (in the matter of the independencc
of colonial people and countries) specifies that: "Every country has án
inalienable right to choose her own political economical social and
cultural system free of outside intervention by any other country"
THIS WAS ALSÓ ACCEPTED BY THE SOVIET UNION
6 Ten years after the Hungárián Revolution our hopes have turnéd to
deep disappointment We witnessed that the 1000 year old nation with
her Western Culture having been previously in the XlVth Century a
great European power and all during her history acted as a
Bulwark of Western Civilization is denied the freedom and independ-encc
which was granted to many emergent people and for which she
had fought so heroically ten years ago
We -- witnessed that the spirit and principles of the UN Charter the
resolutions the treaties historical and morál rights in practice only
sérve the interests of certain gieat powers
We witnessed that the pressures of the Soviet-bloc- k within the UN
were so detremental to the just Hungárián cause that in consequence of
this the Hungárián question was taken off the agenda As a
sequel to this the UN has in effect acknowledgcd the usurping puppet-governmcnt- 's de facto legality and thereby csti'anged itself from the
hopes and aspirations of the Hungárián nation living in bondage
7 We find it impossible to believe that the great free nations of Western
Christian culture includüig our adopted homcland Canada will not
eventually find a diplomatic solution to a reasonable and just settlc-me- nt to the effect that eacli nation including Hungary should herself
determine her national lifc and political fate
S On the tenth anniversary of the Hungárián peoples valiant effort for
freedom and justice it is our prayeful hope that Hungary will eventually
regain her SELF-DETERMINATI-ON
on the basis of free and secret
elections conducted under intemational surveillarice
To achieve this final humán and political solution it would be manda-tor- y that all openly and clandestinely present forces of the Soviets be
unconditionally withdrawn from Hungárián soil as ratified in the
relevant Peace Treaties concluded after World War II
