PROGRESS OP MACEDONIA
. The Yugoslav Constituent Republic of Macedonia,
a'very backward region before the war, has reached
a level of development bringing it near the group of
medium-develope- d countries. Industrial production In
Macedonia' has Increased by almost 23 times, with
the number of persons employed tin the public sector
amounting to .364 thousands now, as compared with
a'mefe'H 4 'thousand before the War. Agricultural
production has risen threefold. Farmers account for
40% of the Macedonian population today, as compared
with 72% before thenar.
It was not before Yugoslavia's liberation that the
Macedonian nation for the.first time got, аз a member
of equal Yugoslav nations, the right to education In its
own language, a right also exercised now by the,
Albanian and Turkish minorities In the Republic of
Macedonia. Despite this good record, attempts are
being made from abroad to deny the very existence
of the Macedonian language, Macedonian nationhood,
and the existence of Macedonian minorities in the
neighbouring countries.

CONGRESS OF LCY
11th Congress of the League of the Communists
of Yugoslavia will be held from June 20 to June 23,
this year, in Belgrade. Republic and Provincial
congresses will be held in April and In May. This
decision was confirmed on the Meeting of the.Central
Committee of LCY.
TRADE WITH U.S.
Yugoslav future primary orientation in the trade
with U.S. "should be towards Increasing Yugoslav
exports. This was stated at the session of the
Management Board of the Yugoslav Chamber for
Economic Cooperation with the U.S., held in Belgrade.
After several years of mostly well-balanc- ed trade, last
year a considerable deficit was registered in Yugoslav
exports in relation to U.S. imports. According to the
data of the Yugoslav Institute of Statistics In 1977
Yugoslav exports to the U.S. totalled 4 biliion and 499
million dinars, while U.S. Imports to Yugoslavia
totalled billion and 282 million dinars.
In view of this, The Yugoslav Federal Institute of
Planning has made an analysis of possibilities for
expanding trade with the U.S. in the period between
1978-198- 0 with particular emphasis on economic
branches where Yugoslavia has realistic chances to
Increase Its exports to the U.S. market. These are, In
the first place, agriculture, textile leather and foot-we- ar
industries.
