Canadian South Slav Association
The Canadian South —
Slav Association is crea-ting
much interest among
Canadians of Yugoslav ori-gin
in Vancouver and sur-rounding
districts. Little
more than a year in exis-tence,
this cultural society
is receiving the support of
Yugoslav-bor- n Canadians,
and also the support of
the sons and daughters in
the community ivho are
Canadian born. This is an
important and necessary
development uhere the ex-periences
of the older
members, nho irere pio-neers
in the organizations
of the past and the ener-gies
of the youth arc com-bined.
The Canadian South —
Slav Association resultid
from an agreement signed
between the members of
the Croatian Educational
Home and the Yugoslav
Educational Home. They
were pioneer organizations
of the community in llri-iis- h
Columbia. After a pe- riod of more than ten
years when there were no
cultural aclivilus, the
same ft clings that gave
birth to the original orga-nizations
emerged again;
a belief that the cultural
contributions of the Yugo-slav
Canadians today are
as important as uere the
contributions of the Yugo-slav
Canadians in mining,
logging, and fishing indus-tries
to the development
of Canada. A belief that
the cultural activities of
many nationalities that
make up the citizens of
Canada cement relation-ships
and develop greater
understanding bet icecn
peoples and develop better
citizens of Canada, and
further, contribute to the
enrichment of the culture

One year ago a hall was
bought around which to
centre the act Ivities of our
society. Now i re are in the
process of having to build
an addition onto this buil-ding.
This hall when com-pleted
will have seating ca-pacity
for 400 people, new
stage, kitchen, committee
room, library, and class-rooms
to teach the Yugo-slav
and English lan-guages.
Most important we feel
is the response of the youn-ger
members of the com-munity,
who in the end
will be instrumental in the
carrying out of the work-i- n
the future. The interest
that they have shown is
gratifying. Today our main

Zbog loscg zdravlja nc mogu radili za nasu novinu
kao Sto sain to pre cinio, ni onoliko koliko bill sada ic-li- o.
Nc mogu islo tako a da se ne pridruiim proslavi 30-godisnj- ice
i da iz svega srea zaielim jos vefe uspehe na-a- o
radnickoj Zlampi.
Citani i mnogo volim nasu novinu i ona mi je najve-c- a
uleha u iivotu. Verujein da ce ona preiiveli sve one
koji joj ielc propast dok god bude stajala na ovom putu
t slilila radnicke interese. Verujtm da c"e nase "Jedin-stvo"
jcdanpul nedcljno, u vecem formatti moci da jos
bolje vrsi svoju ulogu i nailam se da ce nasu novinu pri-grli- ti
svi posteni radnici.
Cestitajuci tridcseli rodjendan nasoj radniikoj no-vi- ni
u ielji da pozivi i da ocita opelo avium onima koji
su njoj prcdskazicali i koji joj i sada predkazuju smrt,
prilaicm nwj skromni doprinos od 30 dolara — tlolar za
svakit godinii.
Ispunjen sam radoscu sto vidim uspeh naseg tcskog
rada.
